Statement for Release in Response to Media Inquiry: Lawsuit Filed on Behalf of Victims of January 10, 2014 Motel Fire in Aurora

The Law Offices of John J. Malm & Associates has been retained to represent two (2) victims of the January 10, 2014 fire at Hansen’s Motel in Aurora, Illinois. Earnest Daniels and Albert Mall were staying in the motel when a fire erupted, filling the building with smoke. Ernest Daniels was transported to Mercy Hospital in Aurora for treatment of smoke inhalation injuries. He was later released, but remains under the care of his physician. Albert Mall was air lifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition where he was hospitalized and treated for life threatening smoke inhalation injuries.

A lawsuit filed in Kane County, Illinois on behalf of Mr. Daniels and Mr. Mall seeks damages for the injuries suffered by the two men due to the negligence of Hansen’s Motel and its owners. The suit alleges that Hansen’s Motel failed to adequately inspect and maintain aging heaters in the motel and failed to operate the motel with functioning smoke detectors. A scene examination by Attorney Malm and investigators is scheduled for April 29, 2014.
