Statement for Release in Response to Media Inquiry: College Student Injured in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accident at University of Illinois
Naperville personal injury lawyer, John Malm, has been retained by the family of a young woman who suffered serious injuries in a pedestrian hit-and-run accident in Urbana, Illinois on October 9, 2013. The 19-year-old woman, who is a student at the University of Illinois, was struck by a pick-up truck as she walked along a sidewalk on Lincoln Avenue. The woman was transported to and hospitalized at Carle Foundation. Another student, a 20-year-old resident of Chicago, was struck and killed in the incident.
The truck involved in the incident was operated by Willie Craft, as stated in police reports. According to witnesses at the scene, the vehicle operated by Craft appeared to be out of control as it sped down the street, onto the sidewalk, striking pedestrians. An investigation has confirmed that Craft had no insurance at the time of the incident. Uninsured motorist claim attorney, John Malm, has filed an uninsured motorist claim, seeking damages on behalf of the injured 19-year-old woman.
Uninsured motorist coverage is intended to protect against uninsured drivers who cause accidents, regardless of whether the injured person was operating a motor vehicle. An uninsured motorist claim may be filed even if the injured person was a pedestrian (and not operating a motor vehicle) at the time of the accident.
